Leaving doors closed can potentially cause the fire to spread through non-flammable walls as the sealed room heats up even further and they end up letting enough heat leak through them to start new fires, and leaving a path of open doors leading outside doesn't let enough heat out to render the fire fightable and renders an even larger portion of the base unusable by heatstroke. They also require the fire to reach where they are(or risking a colonist to enter the fire to deploy them early).
